the natural way to get beautiful, long, and healthy hair




Now as some people may think that they need to get expensive hair treatments in order to revitalize their hair again or spend loads of money on split end menders or conditioning creams, the truth is you really don't. Most of these products are made of chemicals that are really harsh on the hair. For starters, popular everyday conditioners and shampoos have sulfates in them, which form the lather and act like detergents (yes.. the laundry kind) and strip the hair of all of its essential oils and leaves the hair super dry and unhealthy. Now I'm not saying you should throw away all your shampoos and conditioners and go out to whole foods and buy organic stuff, because that really isn't the key to getting healthy hair. To be honest, a lot of these health stores may sell products that claim to be "organic" and "safe", but you really have to be careful that you're not being scammed into buying the same chemical infused products. To be sure, always read the ingredients labels (if they're two paragraphs long...it's probably not a good idea). If you do find a sulfate free shampoo or conditioner, read reviews beforehand too! A lot of times, people with really oily hair find it difficult to get a good clean with sulfate free shampoos, so I would definitely look into finding one that's right for your hair type!
 
Healthy Hair Tips:
1) When washing your hair, try not to use water that's hot, it tends to be very drying on the hair and skin as well!
2) To get a nice deep condition leave the conditioner on for a few minutes while you shave or exfoliate. This way the product really absorbs and your hair is softer/silkier.
3) For a boost in hair color and shine- take a cup of coffee and soak your hair in it. Allow it to soak in for 15-20 minutes before rinsing out.
4) If your hair is really dry, make a hair mask with half of an avocado and a tablespoon of olive oil. (you may want to keep this mask on for 30 minutes or more for awesome results, then rinse very well)
5) To grow longer and healthier hair, get regular trims for dead ends and massage your scalp in the shower to promote circulation and cellular production.
6) If you want to make your hair stop getting oily, stop washing your hair every single day. Washing your hair everyday with harsh products strips your hair of its natural oils and makes your hair produce more oil than normally. Start washing your hair every other day or two days (as gross as it may sound) so your hair slowly gets used to it and starts to get less oily. Using a lot of hair products may also contribute to oily-ness. (shower caps are your friends!)
7) To save a fresh blowout, use a dry shampoo (if brunette) or some baby powder (if blonde) to dry oily spots. Bowouts unfortunately tend to get ruined fast because of all the hair spray used, but if you want to save them, try asking for no hair spray or very minimal.
8) Don't back-comb or tease on a regular basis- that can damage the hair!
9) When blow drying, curling, or straightening, please please please use a heat protectant spray or guard! I use the Tresseme Heat Spray and it's awesome.
10) To stop an itchy scalp, which commonly exists b/c of a buildup of products, massage a little bit of olive oil or apple cider vinegar in the scalp. These two remedies are said to work wonders.
