FARIS BADWAN; A Male Style Post.

Last weekend, I was lucky enough to get to go to Wireless Festival in Hyde Park, where I saw bands such as Foals, Metronomy, Pulp and Yuck. Though all the bands I saw were amazing (minus the Pretty Reckless, which I won't get into now), the one band who really stood out to me in a fashion sense, and who have done for the past few years, were The Horrors.

I've been a fan of The Horrors for quite some time now, and it was great to finally get to see them live. While most of the other bands appeared on stage in a rocker-esque shirt or jeans, frontman Faris Badwan and his bandmates really took it to the next level, as always.

For this post, I'm going to focus on the constant sense of style possessed by Mr. Faris Badwan, formerly known as Faris Rotter, and the main characteristics of his look.

#1; Insanely Skinny Jeans.

I know that a lot of girls don't like a guy in drainpipes, but I have to admit that I am quite the opposite of this, as I love a guy in skin tight jeans. Faris doesn't leave much to the imagination with his jeans, which he completely pulls off, as his legs are so long and skinny (bearing in mind, Faris is about 6'5")

#2; Winklepickers.

There's nothing like a smart, pointed men's dress shoe, and Faris Badwan knows this better than anybody. The combination of his jeans and footwear is a perfect one, and Faris seems to don this look at every occasion.

#3; Black, Black, Black.

I think it's fair to say that Faris rarely ventures outside of his signature black monotone unless it's to add in a little bit of grey, though I do remember him having a great red leather jacket at one stage. Personally, black is probably my favourite colour to wear, and I sometimes have to stop myself buying more. I think black is a really easy colour to pull off, and it's also very flattering.

#4; Big Hair.

When I saw Faris in person, it seemed to me that he had quite a small face. In reality though, I think it's just that he has quite big hair which seems to dwarf his face. Faris' hair hasn't changed much since The Horrors began, perhaps because it's what suits him best.

Faris as an Inspiration;

Ever since I saw Faris, all I've wanted to wear is black. I've wanted to drop five stone and sprout a pair of legs which resemble beanpoles, and I've wanted to backcomb the hell out of my hair.
I think the reason that I am inspired by Faris is because he is so different from many of the other frontmen of the bands I listen to on a daily basis. Faris' look embodies the very essence of The Horrors' music.

SUFJAN STEVENS.

On Wednesday night, I went to the Olympia to see Sufjan Stevens. I might as well just begin by saying that it was the best gig I've ever been to, and was worth battling through the hundreds of Gardaí that were present for the Queen's visit.
Honestly, I can't even begin to describe the performance. It really was breathtaking, and he played for two and a half hours. I really can't recommend listening to him enough.

5 Songs I Love At The Moment.

As anyone who follows me knows, I am completely obsessed with music. It is because of this that I love making playlists and sharing them with you all.

I could probably make a new playlist every day, but to ensure that I don't bore you all to death, I keep it to every few months. It's definitely high time for a new one.

This time I've decided to make a kind of mini-playlist, just a few songs I love at the moment.
Not all of these tracks are necessarily new, or ones I've found recently.

SUMMER 2011; A Brief Overview.

With my exams having just started yesterday, I can assure you that I am already well and truly exhausted. Like many bloggers, my time is currently limited and I'm finding it difficult to squeeze in posts. This overload of academia (ugh) leaves me fantasising about the long summer days to come, and the hours I can fill doing pretty much whatever I please.
Here are a few of my ideas:

Working at Office;

I just found out on Wednesday that I got a job at Office on Grafton St., which of course I am very pleased about. Obviously it means I won't get to see my family as much as I would have liked, but my job is only part-time which means that I'll hopefully still have time to pop down to Cork and visit them. My first shift is this Sunday from 12-3.

Spain with Peter;
This year I really wanted a relaxing holiday, and Spain sounds absolutely perfect. I'll hopefully be staying in the Costa Brava area which is quite close to Barcelona.

Moving into my first apartment;

Though I'm still hunting for the perfect apartment or house with two of my friends, I'm really excited at the prospect of moving in in the next month or two. I can't believe I'm actually old enough to be looking at properties!

Taking driving lessons;
I'm a pretty good driver, but I feel that I should take some lessons before I attempt the big test. It would be great if I could pass my test this summer before all these disgusting new rules start applying to me (my provisional license runs out in August.)

Going to a lot of gigs;

If you're a regular reader, you know by now how much I love live music. This summer, I hope to go to a good few concerts. This will begin with Sufjan Stevens (I love him) on May 18th- the tickets were my year anniversary present from Peter, and I cannot wait.

I'll also be playing in Forbidden Fruit festival on the Sunday with Trinity Orchestra which I'm really excited about.

Reading lots of books;

I'm usually a huge bookworm, but this year I really haven't gotten the chance to be. First on my list? Finish Brighton Rock. I'll continue from there, I have volumes of unread books to enjoy.

Clearing out my wardrobe;
I have so many things in my wardrobe which I never wear. Most of it is quite good quality however, so I'll be donating it to charity.

Spending time with my friends;

Many of my close friends live in Cork, and I don't get to see them as much as I would like. Hopefully this summer I can have people to stay all the time, as I will have a spare room in my apartment. I'm really looking forward to catching up and having a few good nights out.

I'm really looking forward to summer, even if it is comprised of a lot of relaxing, with a couple of nice things here and there. It will be a refreshing break after eight months of college.
