See What all the Muss is About

THE RESULTS (AND RAVES) ARE IN...
Hair junkies can't resist the hint of grit, hold and tousled, shine-free finish of Bb. Texture. This product is perfect for summer; work some through damp hair, ruffle, let it air dry (blow dry or diffuse for more volume) and voila! Come in for a style or purchase some for yourself to see what all the muss is about!

Summer Time Essentials

Now that summer is in full force you have probably been spending a lot of time in the sun and outside. It's been so lovely but there are also a few downfalls to summer like bug bites and sunburns. We prefer to go the natural route when at all possible so when we were introduced to essential oils we were immediately intrigued. After playing around and doing a lot of research our favorite brand has been DoTerra; we get the best results, they work right away and are the most potent on the market (not to mention they're food grade so they're safe enough to ingest!). Here are a few tips to help with summer woes:

1} To avoid harmful chemicals from store brand insect repellant apply TerraShield directly to exposed skin as a natural protectant from bug bites
2} Hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream can take a toll on your digestive system. Apply DigestZen topically to your stomach or swallow a few drops for natural digestion relief.
3} Mix a few drops of Slim & Sassy with your lotion and apply to trouble spots on your body. Add a few drops to a glass of water for a refreshing and appetite-suppressing beverage.
4} For a refreshing pick me up in the afternoon or on a long road trip apply Peppermint to your forehead, shoulders and behind your ears.
5} Lavendar is great for soothing sunburns and calming any other skin woes.
6} Melaleuca is an all-purpose skin antiseptic that works wonders to alleviate bug bites, stings and rashes.

Go Green

We hope you all had a great holiday weekend! We love summer but it can really do a number on your hair. All summer long our clients come in asking how to get the green (from chlorine in the pool) out of their locks. We've tried everything from clarifying shampoos to baking soda and none seemed to do the trick, not to mention they dried out our hair. Our best solution? Tomatoes! It sounds weird but it works on even the blondest of blondes.
We keep a big bottle of Ketchup in our shower and use it after we shampoo. Leave it in for at least 5 minutes, rinse and follow with a hydrating conditioner or masque. To avoid going green in the first place coat your hair with a leave in conditioner before you go swimming and immediately rinse your hair after.

Summer Lovin'

At Salon K we spend most of our time talking about, well, hair. Here are our latest product raves:

Summer style, unplugged

Simple, tousle-and-go styles
Forgo the blow dryer this summer and give your natural texture a chance with three products that ease and enhance. (Lucky for us, undone is in!)
Bb. Texture Creme
Gives even the straightest of hair some texture. Work through damp hair then ruffle, freehand for lift, volume grit and grip.
Surf Spray
Spray on damp (or dry) hair and let dry naturally for beachy matte, texture.
Grooming Creme
Apply to damp hair and tousle for subtle hold and a soft, smooth, low-glow satin finish. Not to mention it's hydrating, great for thirsty summer locks.

SUMMER in Dublin; A General Catch-Up.

Let me just begin this post by apologising for my lengthy and unexplained absence (if anyone actually noticed, that is). I fell out of blogging while I was studying for my exams, and haven't really thought of anything to write until now.
However, it seems that I'm finally back, and seeing as my boyfriend has abandoned me until Thursday, I find myself alone in the big city with only three hours of work in the interim to keep myself occupied (ie. hopefully I can get back to regular posting).

As someone who really has nothing concrete planned for the entire summer (give or take a trip to London or two, a ticket to Wireless festival in Hyde Park, a performer's pass to Electric Picnic and a potential week in Spain) I'm really finding it difficult to get into that summery mood.  Not to sound pompous, but I've never endured a summer this boring, and having to drag myself into work with echoes of the countless Facebook statuses from people proclaiming they're jetting off for entire the summer in my head is tough, to say the least.
However, I have to remember that it's completely my own fault for not planning anything fun and deciding to get a job, and now I've got to make the most of it.

Anyway,

Here are a few of the things my summer has revolved around so far;

Forbidden Fruit
As a member of Trinity orchestra, I was lucky enough to be able to be a part of the opening act of the second day of Forbidden Fruit, a festival which just began this year in Kilmainham.
After we played, we got to stay for the rest of the day and watch the other acts which included Caribou, Jamie XX, Scroobius Pip & Dan Le Sac and Aphex Twin.

Here's me with Daniel Snaith (Caribou)

A very fuzzy picture of Jamie XX.

And here's one of me and a few friends overcoming the rain.

My New Apartment
I've just moved into a beautiful new apartment in a very central location, and I'm absolutely delighted with it. I'm sharing it with one of my best friends from college, Sophie, which I'm also really looking forward to. I won't post any pictures of the actual apartment for fear of internet predators and all that jazz, but it is a newly refurbished Georgian house with amazingly high ceilings, and a stunning colour scheme of powder blue, brown and cream.
Here are a few interior design pictures just because I've been looking at them a lot lately.
I definitely favour this traditional, luxurious style;

My Job @ Office, Grafton St.
Not a bad job, by all accounts. I have become considerably faster at running up and down stairs and memorising numerical codes, and the staff are nice.

Peter
Sad but true, guys, I'd be absolutely lost without him. As we speak, he's at home for a couple of days, and though I'd rather not be mistaken for an obsessive girlfriend, I am feeling pretty lonely without him.
(If you aren't making barfing noises, thank you.)

another summer day

It has been beginning to dawn on me that I still have absolutely no plans for the summer yet. While most of my friends always end up finding a job at a camp or end up going on an extremely fun teen tour, I always find myself stuck in the middle not knowing what to do. Well, a teen tour is generally out of the question, but I've always wanted to travel over seas to Paris, Italy, or Spain. But, knowing that there isn't enough money for a trip of that nature and college applications are right around the corner, the word "internship" sprang up in my mind. The only thing is, I don't know where or what kind of internship I want let alone being able to find one. So...I'm just typing away at my computer on this lovely Sunday...hopefully I find something. I was thinking about finding a magazine internship in Manhattan or maybe taking some art classes. I'm slow :/

Anyways...what are you guys doing this summer? I'm sure none of you are in as much of a pitiful predicament as me.

xx

It's Saturday, the sun is shining and the smell of Summer is in the air! Summer is all about quick and easy hair that still looks good. Here are a couple of our favorite Summer looks:
