it's the 70's baby

I've recently been loving this on-growing trend of 70's fashion! I love a nice wide-legged pant paired with a sleek printed blouse tucked in. To top it all off, you could even pair some geometric or angular quirky earrings with a blowout full of body or a sleek pony-tail.  The the first photo truly epitomizes 70's in the most modern way possible. The pants are so quirky and chic yet the cut is so clean that it looks extremely sophisticated and flattering. To top it all off, a simple figure hugging creme sweater doesn't detract from the boldness of the pant and adds depth and texture to the outfit. Then for some 70's flare, the scarf bow tie really ties the look altogether.
This summer when going for a 70's look, be sure to keep your eyes open for:
  • Flare or wide-legged jeans
  • High-waisted skirts and trousers
  • Bow-blouses, especially ones with billowing or bishop sleeves (Particularly great in fabrics like silk and satin)
  • Clogs or platforms with chunky heels
  • Long pendants, beaded necklaces, stone rings, and bangles
  • Hot pants, jumpsuits, and maxi dresses
  • Tuxedo jackets, brocade blazers
  • Fedoras, floppy hats, and skinny leather belts
 Shoes:
As for shoes, it's great to go for something more on trend now so that you aren't in head-to-toe 70's! It's fun to dress in a different way that looks really chic and trendy, but you always want to keep your look modern, so that it's not as if you popped out of a time machine!! Go for some taupe or nude colored colored booties or platform shoes. I'm personally in LOVE with these Jeffrey Campbell Ophelia platforms. Colors like that really complement a 70's look, because it was very trendy back then! Go for oranges, mahogany reds, golden yellows, and neutral colors for a very retro looking 70's outfit.

 Makeup:
For makeup, go minimal. Don't go all crazy with eyeshadow or anything drastic, because your outfit will generally be doing a lot of the talking. Instead, do a simple winged liner and use a bronzer or peachy blush that contours your cheekbones. Highlight the natural points on your face where the light would normally hit and try to keep your face matte and dewy. As for lips, get a fun orange lipstick or gloss for a retro feel!

How to work the tribal trend!

One of the biggest fashion trends for the summer of 2011 has to be the tribal-bohemian look! It's not everyone's exact favorite and it can be tricky to pull off, but it's probably one of the most popular trends that are emerging this summer. From bold-printed maxi dresses to loads of beaded jewelry, the tribal trend gives off a care-free fun vibe! Here are some of my tips for pulling of this trend!
  • Find something flowy, loose and long, like a maxi-dress, maxi-skirt, harem pants, or tunic. These items are so popular this summer because they look great when paired with chunky shoes and accessories for a bohemian look!
  • Explore different prints! Free People and Urban Outfitters among a few started bringing some really cute tribal-inspired clothing that have all different kinds of prints.
  • When layering, go for something a little loose like a cardigan, sweater.
  • When it comes to dressing bohemian and tribal inspired, accessories are the key. Dig your local thrift store or some other shops you may know and look for a vintage styled fedora or floppy hat. Not to mention, chunky wood beads, feather earings, head scarves, natural-looking stone rings, and earthy looking accesories.
  • Brown (or any other neutral color) leather always looks great with a bohemian look whether it be in a belt, purse, or shoes!
  • Wedges with tribal printed heels, sandals, clogs, and woven leather flats all look great for a tribal-inspired outfit.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment and definitely have pairing certain things you normally wouldn't have before!
