Hair & Hair Color Challenge

HCC Email / Question # 11

When do you use a slice over weaves when doing highlights?
Estella.

It all depends on the look ; weaving is the most common used technique for highlighting hair particularly when you want a natural end result, however when slices are correctly used it can also create a same result. My personal preference is to alternate both a weave and a slice throughout the interior parts of the head, which is in most cases the thickest area of hair on the head as well the darkest and takes the most amount of time to get through in the application process. I do use the slice on the top part of the hair as well remembering that if it’s for a natural look yet slightly stronger highlight effect the slice I take is “paper fine” and creates no lines at the root area where if you’re not careful occurs. . The benefit of using slices when doing highlights is that they are faster, and in today’s world most clients do not have the luxury of having a lot of time just for color, so depending on what the look is a slice is a wonderful easy and a fast approach in delivering a great set of highlights.
